Exploring the Crossroads of Linguistics and Didactics: AI and Fan Fiction for Non-Specialist Literature Students

Journée d'étude

29/11/2024

This presentation examines the intersection of linguistics and didactics through creative fan fiction writing to enhance written skills for graduate-level non-specialist students in the Humanities. This method combines AI-powered tools with fan fiction writing to help students develop critical and analytical skills as they engage with their own literary texts in English. Fan fiction allows learners to experiment with narrative techniques, character development, and stylistic choices, providing a motivating, real-world application of their language learning. AI systems, such as grammar checkers and intelligent tutoring tools, offer personalized feedback on syntax, semantics, and coherence, helping students refine their writing in real time. This study investigates how AI can enhance error detection, provide corrective feedback, and support creative writing through iterative drafts. It emphasizes teaching students to use AI tools constructively and ethically, fostering a responsible approach to technology use. Additionally, the presentation will address the implications of AI in humanities-based language courses, highlighting the benefits of technological support in developing critical thinking, and analytical skills while considering potential risks. By integrating creative fan fiction writing with AI tools, this research aims to empower learners to become proficient writers and foreign language speakers, while fostering deeper, more thoughtful literary analysis and critique.
